  1. Record voice and screen using OBS Studio

(i)  Check Your Sources

Within Sources, select Audio and Window capture in turn and set as appropriate using the gear icon below. To add a source, click the ‘+’. To capture the while screen, select Display Capture and choose the correct display from the settings window if using multiple displays.

(ii)  Set Up the Scene

Ensure your "Sources" are ordered correctly. Drag and drop sources to arrange their layering (e.g., if the window capture is behind something else, it may not be visible).

(iii)  Start Recording

Go to the Controls panel on the bottom right and click Start Recording. OBS will now capture your screen and any audio sources you’ve added. To stop recording, return to the Controls panel and click Stop Recording.

(iv) Save and Locate the Recording

OBS will save your video to the default directory (e.g., in your "Videos" folder). You can check or change the save location in: Settings > Output > Recording Path.

  1. Edit video and audio tracks using Shotcut. Save and Export

(i) Open Your Video in Shotcut

Launch Shotcut. Drag and drop your video file into the Playlist panel on the top left. Then from the Playlist, drag the video file into the Timeline at the bottom. If you don’t see the Timeline, click View > Timeline in the top menu.

(ii) Detach Audio

Right click the video clip in the Timeline and select Detach Audio from the context menu. The audio will now appear as a separate track below the video track.

(iii) Edit Audio and Video Independently

  • Use the Split at Playhead tool (][ icon) to cut clips at the playhead (the vertical line indicating the current position).

  • Select and move the audio or video clips independently by dragging them, or cut them with the scissors icon

  • Trim clips by hovering over the start or end of a clip until the trim icon appears, then drag to shorten or extend

(iv)  Add Additional Tracks (if needed)

If you need extra tracks, right-click in the empty space of the Timeline and select Add Video Track or Add Audio Track.

(v) Save Your Project

  • Go to File > Save As to save your project in Shotcut’s format (.mlt) for future editing

  • When you’re ready to export your final video, click Export in the top menu, choose a preset or format, and hit Export File

  • For YouTube, ensure you use a resolution and format that aligns with YouTube’s recommended specs:

Resolution: 1920x1080 (Full HD) or 1280x720 (HD). Format: MP4 with H.264 codec. Frame rate: Match your video’s original frame rate for smooth playback.
